It’s Getting Worse | Diabetes Update 3

It’s been a while since I last updated this blog about my Diabetes and that is because it’s been mostly stagnant. However, in the last couple of months, things started to go downhill.

I was still in what doctors often call the ‘honeymoon’ phase after Diabetes is first diagnosed. In this phase, the body needs less insulin, just because it’s the first the body is being supported from the outside with insulin injections. This honeymoon phase is now over.

Two kinds of insulin

For the past couple of months, I have only used one kind of insulin in varying dosages always when I eat carbs. I have realized that my body needs more and more insulin for the same amount of carbs and it has gotten to a point where it’s been impossible to estimate how much insulin I need.

I had an appointment at the hospital and turns out that now I have to use two different kinds of insulin. The same I’ve used before for when I eat carbs. And a new one every evening before I go to bed. The latter insulin balances out the sugar produced by the liver while one’s asleep and also helps to keep the sugar curves steadier. This has had a big impact on me and my body and while this is a sign that my Diabetes has gotten worse, this new insulin also made me handle my Diabetes way better.

Body modification

Last time I’ve been to the hospital I’ve talked to the doctors and they reassured me that I can have operations like getting my tonsils out (which I finally did) or get a tattoo if I wanted to.

The Diabetes care center is honestly the only place of the hospital I feel like I’m taken good care of. I am still scared about the late consequences of Diabetes but for now, I feel like I have a grip on it again.

It’s good to hear that you feel like your healthcare team cares about you. Sounds like you are a good match.
Sucks that it’s getting worse, though.

Do you have something to say?
