Pros and Cons of Living in Berlin

Clubbing here makes clubbing at home feel like a Bavarian beer garden.

In Berlin, I enjoy the luxury of going to a new place every weekend. This is not the best for my personal FOMO but I enjoy having a lot to choose from rather than having nothing to choose at all. Don’t get me wrong, Graz does not not know how to party. It’s just smaller and due to law restrictions, the scene is continuously getting smaller. Clubbing isn’t everything but it’s a good incentive to come to Berlin. It’s also the reason I sometimes ask myself if I should’ve moved to Berlin when I was younger.

Just as amazing as the party scene is the culinary scene. There is so much to choose from, so again, it’s hard to settle on where to go. If you find your way around the city, you can fall in love with Fawaffel, a waffle made from falafel dough, germ dumplings filled Vietnamese style, Asian burgers, street food markets, crazy Fusion kitchen and many vegetarian and vegan options. Clubbing and eating out are two of the things that are undoubtedly better in Berlin than at home, but of course, this city has its downsides as well.

I hate the waiting times in Berlin.

Going outside always feels like a journey. Wherever I wanna go, it’s usually half an hour to get there. There are so many great places to visit but most of them are far from each other. When there’s a long museum night in Graz you can visit most of the venues on foot. In Berlin, you should rather not try that. You may use the subway rides to regain energy from the busy city, but I still wish everything was a little closer.

The people here are so open.

People from Berlin seem to have heard and seen it all and accept everything. That’s nice. But sometimes I think that people here may have a stronger tendency to be self-involved and it’s harder to find people who actually wanna have a deep conversation. Everyone always has something going on and I realized that, naturally, nobody really cares that much about anyone but themselves.

Besides Berlin being a busy and stressful city that can sometimes feel overwhelming, I will miss it a lot. There is so much to see and explore. I have been to a lot of clubs, cafés, art galleries, restaurants, pop up shops and shopping miles but I still feel like I could keep on exploring Berlin endlessly. I do sometimes miss Graz though, especially friends and family. Honestly, I have no clue how I will be feeling once I’m back home and I will have to do a recap after my return.

Thank you for the “glimpse” into the social life that Berlin affords. At least now you have the experience and the knowledge that “you’ve done it before and can do it again” if necessary. Good post! Naked hugs!

Do you have something to say?
